You Don’t Need Tomorrow’s Grace Today
Anxiety has a way of pulling us into moments that have not happened yet.
We rehearse future conversations.
We imagine worst-case scenarios.
We mentally solve problems that may never exist.
And suddenly we are exhausted by a day we have not even lived.
Jesus spoke directly to this in Matthew 6:34:
“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
That verse is incredibly practical.
Jesus did not say tomorrow would contain no challenges.
He simply told us not to move tomorrow’s challenges into today.
Sometimes one of the most helpful questions you can ask yourself is:
Is this actually happening right now?
If the answer is yes, then ask:
What is the next wise step?
Not the next twenty steps.
Just the next one.
If the answer is no, you may be carrying a future problem that belongs in God’s hands for now.
God gives daily grace.
Daily bread.
Daily strength.
That means you do not need next Thursday’s strength on Monday morning.
You do not need the answer to every future question before you go to sleep tonight.
You only need enough grace for the moment you are actually in.
This does not mean avoiding responsibility.
Planning is wise.
Preparation is wise.
But there is a difference between preparation and emotional time travel.
Preparation asks, “What can I do today?”
Anxiety asks, “How can I control everything that might happen tomorrow?”
One produces action.
The other often produces exhaustion.
There will always be something ahead that you cannot completely control.
The invitation is to stop demanding that your mind live there.
Come back to today.
Come back to this conversation.
This meal.
This breath.
This prayer.
This decision.
This moment.
Tomorrow will have its own grace when you arrive there.
You do not need to borrow trouble from it today.
Reflect
What future scenario have you been emotionally living through before it has happened?
What is one thing you actually need to handle today?
What can you release until tomorrow?
Prayer
God, bring my mind back to today. Help me stop carrying future problems before I have the grace to face them. Give me wisdom for what belongs to me now and trust for what does not. Teach me to live one day at a time with You. Amen.
Remember... You are not too broken.
Love, Mel xoxo
