Things Can Bother You Without Owning You

Healing does not mean becoming unaffected by life.

It does not mean nothing hurts anymore.

It does not mean fear never shows up, disappointment never stings, or difficult situations stop getting under your skin.

Real strength is not becoming untouchable.

It is learning that something can bother you without owning you.

There is a huge difference between feeling fear and letting fear lead.

Between experiencing stress and allowing stress to control every decision.

Between being hurt and letting hurt become your identity.

Jesus never modeled emotional numbness.

He cried.

He grieved.

He became tired.

He felt deep anguish.

And yet He remained anchored.

That is a much healthier picture of strength.

Not: Nothing affects me.

But: What affects me does not control me.

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

The verse does not say trouble will never come.

It tells us where to stand when it does.

That is what being anchored looks like.

You may still have days when your mind races.

You may still feel frustrated.

You may still have moments when something feels heavier than you wish it did.

None of that means you are failing.

The question is not, “Did this bother me?”

The better question is, “What am I going to let this have authority over?”

You can be bothered without surrendering your peace.

You can feel afraid and still make a wise decision.

You can be disappointed and still believe something good is ahead.

You can have a hard day without deciding you have a hopeless life.

Healing is not becoming emotionally bulletproof.

Healing is realizing the things that once consumed you no longer get unlimited access to your mind, your identity, or your future.

Things can bother you. They just don’t have to own you.

Reflect

What has been taking up more emotional space than it deserves?

What would it look like to acknowledge how you feel without letting that feeling make your decisions?

Prayer

God, help me become anchored instead of numb. Teach me to feel honestly without letting fear, pain, or stress control me. Remind me that my emotions are real, but they are not my master. Let Your truth be stronger than whatever is trying to overwhelm me. Amen.

Remember, you are NOT too broken... love, Mel xoxo
